At least 40 people, including the BJP candidate for Kottayam Lok Sabha seat, were injured in separate clashes between activists of rival political outfits in Kerala. BJP candidate Narayanan Nampoothiri was among the injured as clashes broke out between BJP and LDF workers in two places in Kottayam district. Nampoothiri and seven of his party activists had been admitted to the Kottayam medical college hospital.

28 LDF workers and two photographers were also injured in the violence which erupted after a section of crowd pelted stones
